Despite positive growth outlook, IMF warns on negative real interest rate

A team of economists from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Paul Mathieu, could not have been more generous in their assessment of Ethiopia’s half year economic performance when they released their much anticipated statement last week.

After undertaking consultation with members of Ethiopia’s macroeconomic team, from Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to Teklewold Atnafu, governor of the central bank, their verdict was largely positive. Read full text
