U.S. Embassy Urges Peace and Reconciliation in Ethiopia Amid Ongoing Conflicts
Ethiofact – As Ethiopia continues to grapple with widespread internal conflicts, the United States Embassy in Addis Ababa has issued a strong call for peace, urging all parties to prioritize the welfare of the Ethiopian people and seek lasting solutions to the country’s crises.
In a statement released today, U.S. Ambassador Ervin Massinga emphasized the urgent need to put people first, highlighting the devastating impact of violence on internally displaced persons, children’s access to education and healthcare, and the rule of law.
“It’s time to implement lasting solutions that allow displaced Ethiopians to return home, restore access to education and health care for children, and end the culture of lawlessness masked as armed struggle,” Ambassador Massinga said.
The statement called on all stakeholders involved in Ethiopia’s various regional conflicts to take concrete steps toward peace. Specifically, the embassy urged the armed group Fano to articulate “realistic and peaceful objectives” and encouraged the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) to actively pursue negotiations to end the ongoing conflict in Oromia.
In a rare and direct appeal, the U.S. also called on the Ethiopian federal government to “immediately cease the use of drone strikes against its own people” and instead focus on facilitating peaceful resolutions.
“The path forward for Ethiopia lies in peace and stability,” Ambassador Massinga concluded.
The message comes at a time when the humanitarian situation in many parts of Ethiopia remains dire, with millions displaced by conflict and communities suffering from disrupted services and insecurity. The United States, a longstanding partner of Ethiopia, reiterated its commitment to supporting inclusive dialogue and efforts aimed at achieving a durable peace.
